Gokenin class Samurai engaged in a city government official or a police officer in Edo periods. Gokenin especially who earned salary below 100 straw ricebags were called Doshin class and their service uniforms were Haori hakama instead of Kamishimo of higher classes. They equipped a pair of large and small Katana and they put on a pair of Setta, i.e. shoes and black Tabi, i.e. socks. For formal occasions, they used white Tabi.
